On Saturday 19 October Thandokhulu hosted the 2nd Annual Computer Training Workshop organised by the UCT society Women in Computer Science (WICS).

Last year the focus was on teaching our girls Python, a programming language which is easy to learn, in high demand in the workplace and ideal for Web development.

This year 12 WICS volunteers worked with almost 40 of our students. The focus  was on introducing them to HTML, CSS and other web concepts needed to create their own webpages. They were also taught the importance of having more women enter the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Finally, what technology degrees are available at university level and what the entry requirements are.

Thandokhulu would like to thank WICS for exposing our learners to new opportunities they may never have experienced. Our country needs strong, young scientists to create novel solutions to our many challenges. These challenges can only be met effectively with the involvement of women scientists.
